My Big Fat Glass of Warm Water

Bio-Logic Aqua Technologies Biomedical Research recommends drinking a large glass of warm (or slightly hot) water soon after awakening each morning. As was reported last month, your body tends to dehydrate (dry out) while you sleep and a big fat glass of water is a great way to start the day at full strength rather than at a deficit. Warm water is better than cold water because it is more quickly absorbed and less likely to be excreted as urine. Also, the warmth stimulates your metabolism, providing a little extra energy, which is often sorely needed when you first wake up.

The lesson that warm water absorbs into your body faster and more thoroughly than cold water has many implications. For example, that big glass of ice-cold lemonade, as refreshing as it might be in summer, would be more beneficial as a tepid glass of lemonade, unless your body is overheated and needs to cool down. On a hike, the warm water in your canteen or water-bottle may taste awful but it's the perfect drink if you've been climbing mountains and perspiring profusely (this summer, we'll offer many more tips on keeping your body hydrated in hot weather and on hikes).
