Out to Dry

Extended drought and weather extremes are increasingly common in our polluted, overcrowded world. During periods of drought, where rainfall and air humidity are significantly below average, the susceptibility of human skin and eyes to dehydration or loss of moisture increases. Here are some tips to help keep skin and eyes moist and healthy during droughty periods.

  • Two or three warm, luxuriant baths a week can alleviate stress, relax tired and sore muscles and add precious moisture to skin and eyes. Add Epsom salts to soften the water and increase absorption into your skin. Shower quickly after the bath to wash off dirt, toxins and alkaline residue.
  • Showers moisturize skin and eyes and rinse toxins, bacteria and desiccant (drying) chemicals such as chlorine off your skin. When showering, keep your eyes open and inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth for several 10 to 12 second intervals.
  • Begin each day with a glass of warm or hot water and drink six to eight eight ounce glasses throughout the day. Warm or hot water is more readily absorbed, with less going to the kidneys. Juice is an excellent source of water, nutrition and energy but can be caloric.
  • Fill bowls and vases with water around your house and office. The water evaporates into the air, increasing the humidity.
  • Skin lotions labeled as "moisturizers" do not add moisture to skin but they help the skin retain moisture already present. These moisture sealers act as a beneficial barrier between skin and air, and between the skin and pollution, bacteria and desiccant chemicals. Make-up is an excellent moisture sealer although both men and women should wear moisture sealers on their face. The best moisture sealers contain some sun protection.
  • Proper nutrition keeps the body healthy, improves detoxification and slows moisture loss. Keep your calories down and stick to light, easily digestible meals with a high water content (fruit is fantastic!). Avoid difficult to digest foods.
  • Treat your skin and eyes to Nature's Tears® EyeMistTM and Nature's Mist® Skin Moisture. With "Just a Mist", you can restore lost moisture and refresh the eyes, skin and spirit.
