Everyone who wears "cosmetic colors" knows that make-up fades if you wear it too long. Reds become less red, powder tends to look ashy and you end up looking like a ghost. Or a faded, overly made-up movie star straight out of "Sunset Boulevard".

It turns out that the make-up does not lose color. The true culprit is the skin underneath. Certain types of make-up draw moisture out of the skin. Eventually, the underlying skin becomes dehydrated. When that occurs, there are two results: (1) The skin's blood capillaries constrict, causing the skin to lose color, which in turn causes the make-up to appear less colorful. (2) The dried-out make-up further appears to lose color in much the same way that a dry rock appears less colorful than a wet rock.

To restore skin and make-up color, you must increase your skin's moisture content. This is not easily accomplished because the skin draws most of its water from the body, a slow and indirect process.
